Abstract:

Human beings, by virtue of their intellectual capabilities, are regarded as the highest among all living beings. Therefore, it is essential for human beings to preserve and cultivate values that are befitting of humanity. The proper observance and practice of these values foster a spirit of universal welfare and well-being in the human mind. The Vedas are regarded as the foundational source of Indian civilization, culture, and religious thought. They comprise Mantras and Brahmanas and represent one of the most significant sources for understanding the philosophical and cultural heritage of India. Without a proper understanding of the Vedas, it is difficult to comprehend the deeper essence of the Indian intellectual and spiritual tradition. The Vedas contain several unique and significant hymns associated with Shraddha (faith), Samjnana (unity of thought), Shiva Sankalpa (noble and auspicious resolve), and Samanasya (harmony of minds). These hymns emphasize various humanistic virtues, including compassion, charity, courage, friendship, forgiveness, cooperation, and service to others. By cultivating and practising these virtues in accordance with scriptural teachings, human beings can develop the qualities that truly make them worthy of being called “human.” In the contemporary social context, where conflict, selfishness, intolerance, and social divisions are increasingly visible, the relevance of these Vedic humanistic values has become more significant than ever. The principles of mutual understanding, harmony, compassion, cooperation, and universal welfare contained in the Vedic tradition can provide valuable guidance for addressing many challenges of modern society. Therefore, this research paper explores the significance, utility, and contemporary relevance of humanistic and value-oriented qualities found in the Vedas. It seeks to demonstrate how these timeless Vedic values can contribute to the development of responsible individuals, harmonious communities, and a more humane and peaceful society.
