Abstract:

This paper discussed ‘Putul Nacher Itikatha’ a Bengali novel by Manik Bandopadhy. This is a psychological novel. The center of the novel is the village of Gaudiya and the people of this village. ‘Putul Nacher Itikatha’ is a novel by Manik Bandyopadhyay based on rural life, characterized by a focus on scientific curiosity and humanistic values. The story of the puppet dance is not directly narrated anywhere, but the story of the puppet and the topic of puppet play are mentioned several times. From the beginning of the novel, a strange play of unseen destiny begins. Shashi doctor finds the body burnt by a lightning strike and with the help of Govardhan brings it to the village. Then, the body is cremated with the help of the people.

In the second chapter, the author skillfully presents Shashi's family and family identity. In the first part of the story, it is seen that Shashi doctor completes his medical education in Kolkata and starts living in the village permanently. He devotes himself to the service of the people of the village. The tension between Shashi doctor and Haru Ghosh's daughter Moti and daughter-in-law Kusum is the subject of the story, and several of his anecdotes (Kumud, Moti, Bindu, Nandalal) are also included in the book. All in all, it is the history of the tragic failure of the mechanical life of living puppets the story of ‘Putul Naher Itikatha’. In this novel, the author shows that the overall effort of man, the fulfillment of his desires or the outcome is not in his own puppet. In the face of the unerring directives of an unknown force, the human role is merely that of a puppet.
