Abstract:

This research paper aims to conduct a comparative study of the educational status of government and private higher secondary schools in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, India. The study focuses particularly on infrastructure facilities, including the age and type of school buildings, classroom size, library facilities, fire safety measures, laboratory equipment, and other essential physical resources. It also examines manpower facilities, including student enrolment, attendance and examination participation, pass and failure rates, dropout rates, number of teachers, teacher–student ratio, teaching experience, and teachers’ training. The study adopts a descriptive survey research design, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data were collected through surveys, checklists, observation, and interview methods to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the educational status of higher secondary schools. Mean and percentage analyses were employed to compare the educational status of government and private higher secondary schools. The findings reveal that private higher secondary schools generally have better infrastructure facilities than government higher secondary schools, particularly in terms of physical infrastructure and laboratory facilities. However, government higher secondary schools have a comparatively better salary structure for teachers than private schools. The study highlights significant differences between government and private higher secondary schools in terms of infrastructure, manpower facilities, teacher qualifications, experience, training, and teacher–student ratio.
